Starter packs
How Marketplace starter recommendations, preferences, and installs work.
Starter packs are Marketplace listings aimed at new workspaces — baseline command libraries, example workflows, and supporting templates/reports for labs, training, and structured onboarding.
Starter packs are curated editorial content, not auto-installed defaults. You always review the install preview and confirm Marketplace install yourself.
Recommendations vs install
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Recommendations | Marketplace may suggest starter packs based on your saved preference and visible filters |
| Browse / open listing | You read the pack description and contents summary |
| Install preview | WorkCheats shows what would be copied into your workspace |
| Confirm install | Server-side trusted copy runs only after you confirm |
Filters and recommendation cards do not install content by themselves.
Saved Starter Pack preference
During onboarding (for eligible new personal accounts) and in Settings → Preferences, you can save a Starter Pack interest — for example Web Pentest, Cloud Security, Blue Team, or Not sure yet.
That preference feeds Marketplace starter recommendations. It does not:
- Install any pack automatically
- Change your workspace library by itself
- Grant export rights to installed content
Open Marketplace with the starter panel (for example ?panel=starter) to see recommendation-focused browse.
Hard filters on the starter panel
The starter recommendations area uses hard filters — not ranking-only hints:
- Skill level filter narrows which listings are shown
- Interest track filter narrows which listings are shown
Listings that do not match the active filters are excluded from the visible set. Adjust filters to explore other starter packs.
After install
Installed starter content:
- Appears in Library, Workflows, Templates, and related workspace areas
- Is tracked on the Marketplace Installed page
- Carries starter / Marketplace-installed provenance
- Is subject to export restrictions — see Export policy
Editing installed starter content does not automatically make it exportable.
Starter packs are not user imports
Installing a starter pack is Marketplace install (trusted server-side copy).
Uploading similar JSON through Import Center is a separate untrusted user import path with different validation and provenance rules. Package JSON cannot declare itself trusted or Marketplace-published.
Catalogue expectations
During closed beta, only server-published starter listings appear for install. Editorial draft packs may exist in planning repositories but are not live catalogue entries until published.
Do not assume every described starter pack is already available in your environment.
